When I type @ I get a “ and vice versa

 

Situation

When you are typing an email or typing in a document you may experience that the @ key is coming up as “ and vice versa.

Cause

The Keyboard layout is incorrectly setup on the notebook. In Australia and NZ the keyboard layout should be set to US

Resolution

To change the keyboard layout please follow the below steps:

Windows 8.0 & 8.1

1. On the Start screen, type Control Panel

2. Select Control Panel

3. Select Large Icons (this can be found on the top right hand corner)

4. Select the language icon

5. Next page will show the current language and keyboard used

6. Select Options

7. Select Add an input method

8. Ensure QWERTY US Touch keyboard layout is selected and click Add

9. Remove all other Input methods except for US

10. Click Save and close all other open windows.

Windows 7

1. Click Start

2. Select Control Panel

3. Select Large Icons (this can be found on the top right hand corner).

4. Select Regional and Language Options

5. Select Keyboards and Languages tab

6. Click on Change Keyboards

7. From the drop-down box under the heading Default input language; Select English (Australia) – US

8. Select Ok

9. Restart your computer for the changes to take effect

Windows Vista

1. Click Start

2. Select Control Panel

3. Confirm Classic View is selected (This can be found on the top left hand corner of the Control Panel)

4. Select Regional and Language Options

5. Select Keyboards and Languages tab

6. Click on Change Keyboards

7. From the drop-down box under the heading Default input language; Select English (Australia) – US

8. Select Ok

9. Restart your computer for the changes to take effect

Windows XP

1. Click Start

2. Select Control Panel

3. Confirm Classic View is selected (This can be found on the top left hand corner of the Control Panel)

4. Select Regional and Language Options

5. Select the Language tab

6. Select Detail

7. From the drop-down box under the heading Default input language; Select English (Australia) – US

8. Select Ok

9. Restart your computer for the changes to take effect
